Murmuration Kernel

Boids flocking computed entirely in WebGPU compute shaders. Every step bins each bird into a spatial grid with atomics, prefix-scans the bins, sorts the flock, then steers every bird from its local neighbors.

Hue is flight direction. Aligned flocks show as one solid color; turning fronts show as gradients.

Pipeline per step

Clear zeroes the per-cell counters.
Bin hashes each bird to a cell; atomicAdd returns its slot.
Scan turns cell counts into start offsets in one workgroup.
Scatter writes birds into cell-sorted order.
Steer reads the 3×3 neighboring cells, applies separation, alignment and cohesion, and integrates.
